Mobile Appointments UI

The mobile application is catered towards the therapist persona — the person who works directly with a patient. They just need to get in to the application and start working. But there are required actions they need to take to complete an appointment. This project was defining those actions and creating a simple schedule and appointment view.

Through initial discussions with internal SMEs, I determined that the user of the application needed to be able to:

  • view their appointments

  • start and end their appointments

  • execute a session with their patient

  • capture signatures for the appointment

  • fill out notes regarding the appointment (future add to the application but still needed to be considered in the design)

From there, I started determining the user’s workflow to help identify the screens we needed to design.

Next steps were to create wireframes and a prototype in order to start showing to SMEs and customers. It ended up being a challenge to talk to customers that would actually use the mobile application, but we were able to vet the intuitiveness of the design at least.

The schedule view ended up having nearly a dozen variations looked at. This is because we discovered that the scheduled appointment time was only relevant before the appointment started. Once an appointment started, the therapist would want to see the actual recorded appointment time captured. We also considered what a tele-health appointment might look like, even though the application does not support it yet.

After a few iterations of feedback and wireframe updates, we were ready to apply the visual design.
