Form Template Builder
This project is a complete overhaul on how admin users currently build templates for a specialized form that needs to be filled out by their employees after every appointment they have with a client. The focus is on providing best practice templates so users spend less time figuring out what to put in the form.
First there was research done in the personas involved with creating these templates. It was discovered that administrators, not licensed behavior analysts (like originally thought) were the designers of these forms.
We discovered this by interviewing internal SMEs and a few customers. Finding out that information did not change our path forward, but it validated that providing best practices templates could be very valuable to some organizations.
After initial research, I started looking at known form creators to draw inspiration. We thought that designing a tool that seemed familiar to our users would allow them to adapt to the new tool without training. From conversations with customers, we knew they often used tools like Google Forms and Microsoft Forms within their organizations.
Initial designs were created drawing inspiration from Google Forms but with a focus on providing pre-designed sections for the MVP. The ability to add custom sections was deemed as a feature that could be added later.
Next step was to show the design to the developers which ultimately provided good feedback on the overall architecture of the design. I provided developers with the information architecture details since the prototype and wireframes could only tell small parts of the story.
Before I left the project, we were planning a round of customer interviews where would ask the user to perform tasks on the UI to help validate the usability. Our biggest challenge throughout the project was not having access to the correct personas for these customer interviews, but the feedback we allowed us to improve the user interactions.
